Where can I adjust my invoice numbers?
My invoice numbers are prefaced with the year (i.e. 2012-xxxx) and mine still say 2011-xxxx. I thought manually changing my first invoice this morning to 2012-xxx1 would trigger the sequential nature of it to make the one after that 2012-xxx2, but instead it reverted back to the next in the 2011-xxxx sequence. I’ll need Estimate numbers to change as well.
I’ve looked through Invoice > configure and account settings and can’t find any reference to invoice numbers. Please advise ASAP. Thanks!
Harvest selects the next available invoice number on a per-client basis. So if you would like to prepend “2012” to all of your invoices, the first invoice of the new year will need to be done manually for each client. After that Harvest will add new numbers that include the 2012 prefix.
For those of you following along at home, I will admit that I went ballistic on the Harvest Support team over email when I discovered this problem, and despite my ill-advised tantrums, they actually came through for me in the end and rolled out a quick fix that specifically addresses and detects year-based invoice numbering. By addressing my complaint quickly and finding a fix instead of just placating me with a continued chant of “maybe in the future”, they saved me from having to remember to manually change the invoice number on 200+ invoices over the next 12 months. I’d already screwed up a half dozen invoices this week alone and the problem would’ve only gotten worse with 200+ clients to go.
So thank you, Harvest Team, for allowing me to vent and throw things and take my frustrations out on all the innocents, while you went ahead and figured out how to fix it anyway :)
Mind if I ask what they did for you? Was it a fix that should have affected all subscribers or only you? I need it for exactly the same reason…
I’d encourage you to email support@harvestapp.com if you’re running into the same problem. They told me “we’ve deployed a fix for our invoicing numbers. If you use the format 2011-xx, Harvest should automatically detect that you’re using year-based numbering and increment the next number as you would expect.” — presumably that was a system-wide fix and not just for my account :)
