Pausing the timer
I generally prefer to enter my time entries via the start and end time fields, and thus have my preferences set that way. However, there are many occasions wherein I want to use the timer/clock feature to track my time. Thus, 2 questions:
1) Is it possible to switch between the two modes on the fly, rather then changing the settings each time? If not, please consider adding this as a feature – would be much easier then jumping to the settings page every time.
2) If I get interrupted and click on the stop button while using the timer, is this akin to a pause button? In other words, if I start and stop throughout a session multiple times, will the final result be the total period during which the timer was turned on? I am guessing that is the case, but just would like to confirm.
(This use case is another reason I wouldn’t want to always use the start and end time since it obviously would create a big multiple entry mess if there were multiple pauses during the session.)
Thanks!
You can start and stop timers whether you’re tracking time by duration or with timestamps. If an entry with start and end times is restarted, the timestamps will be dropped and only the total time for that task will be tracked.
Thanks for using Harvest!
Scott – I wish that was the case, but I just tried it and ended up with three different entries based on three different start and stops. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hello David. Thanks for posting this via a support ticket. Let’s continue to work on this there. Cheers.
I would also like to know about this. I’ve just come over to Harvest from a Windows app called Fenurio, which had the ‘pause’ facility there…excellent if you’re going to answer the doorbell or whatever.
In essence, I’m not ending that design session to go answer the door…I’m pausing what I’m doing. A simple pause/continue option would be great!
Hello Mike. You can set up your timestamps to be recorded by duration rather than start and end times. That way you can pause a timer, answer the door, and then restart it when you’re ready.
To do so, go to Manage > Account Settings and click the Edit Preferences button. Under the Timesheets Timestamps section, select Track Time By Duration.
Thanks for using Harvest!
I suspect that most of us need to switch between the two modes constantly (duration and start/end times). Therefore, being able to switch between the two modes on the fly, rather then via settings, would be ideal. Please consider adding this possibility.
Will do! I’ll add this to our feature request notes.
I should also mention that when tracking by duration, you can enter time as either minutes or decimals. So entering 1:30 and 1.5 will yield the same result.
