Forum notification emails - 4 steps to read a reply

Not sure if this should go in feature requests or here…

This is a tiny nit. But annoying anyway. :)

I get forum notification emails for topics I’m interested in.

But each one costs a subscriber a little more time than necessary…

First, the latest reply to the thread isn’t included in the e-mail. Including the reply text is a fantastic time saver.

But since there’s no text, we have to click the link. Arriving at the forum, the link doesn’t take us to the latest post, as many forum systems do.

Instead, we have to click to get to the last page.

Unfortunately, there are no navigation links at the top of the topic’s page. If the topic runs to more than one page, it means we have to scroll down to the bottom of the first page, then click the link to the last page… then scroll to the bottom of that page.

So… Instead of it taking a single step to read a forum reply — opening an e-mail message — it can end up taking four.

If your forum software refuses to send reply text, and refuses to send a link directly to the last post, could you at least add a “newest post” link? Or pagination links? At the top of the first page?
