Invoice Search and Navigation

Avatar

Invoice Searching:
I do certain types of services regularly, but not on a predictable schedule, so recurring invoices won’t work. Each time I bill for one of these services, I find myself wishing that I could easily look up the last time I billed for said service. A lot of time could be saved if I were able to search my invoices.

Invoice Navigation:
I could live without searchable invoices if the invoices were easier to work with.

If the invoices were paginated with “Previous/Next” buttons, then I could quickly flip through past invoices to find what I’m looking for.

And short of paging through the invoices, if there were some way to open invoices in new browser tabs, things would be easier.

As it is now, individual invoices are opened from the invoice list page with JavaScript, so I can’t open the link in a new tab. Click on invoice—"oops, not the right one"—click back button…click next invoice, not right either—back… next invoice—"AARRGH!"—back…. Rinse, repeat.

Basically what I’m saying is, “Make the invoices easier to navigate.”

This is a really important question and I’m a bit frightened that no one has answered this. I’ve been using Harvest for only a couple of weeks now (2010) and everything looked awesome. Until now. I have now invoiced 47 customers and the invoice list is already a mess. This is something the Harvest team needs to implement ASAP:

- Search for invoices (By customer name, invoice ID, title and most of the other fields).
- Ability to sort invoices on the different columns in the invoice list.
- Pagination on the invoice list.

Wtihout this, Harvest will quickly become a real pain to work with :)

Really agree with this, as well as the same for estimates.
Are you Harvest planning theese?

I agree. Right now, the only way to find invoices is using the “Invoice >> Report” feature, which seems to take a lot more time than is necessary. I think that the “Account Statement” feature (discussed as being in the works) would be nice way to address this use case, too.

Hey all, thanks for the input, and @kulvik, your fellow Harvester @Jim Kring gave some great advice: go to Invoices > Report > Create New Report, to find specific invoices, as either an Invoice Reports or Payments Received Reports. You can export any of these reports to Excel, if you need to further manipulate the data.

Thanks for the feedback on the changes you’d like to see in the Invoices Dashboard with more sophisticated search functionality, we’ll make a note of it!

Just started on Harvest, and we have imported about 2000 invoices through the API.
It is a nightmare to find invoices, especially “per client”.

I would suggest two features:
- a search (where we can enter either a client name, or an invoice number).
- a “client page” where I can click on a client and see all their invoices (and their estimates,etc..)

Very tricky at the moment to find anything!

Keep up the good work!

I’m a little dissapointed that it has been a YEAR now and there’s seemingly no movement on this issue.

I would love to see a “Client” page that shows all the invoices, estimates, etc. for that client. Having to go to Reports > Create New Report just to find a single invoice is a real pain and a glaring oversight.

I’ll jump on the bandwagon, again, since it’s been almost a year since my last “I agree” post — I still agree that there is much room for improving the invoice searching capabilities.

I’m still fairly new to Harvest and already I’m baffled as to why I can’t easily search or navigate through invoices.

Any word on whether this may be addressed in a near-future update?

Avatar

Yeah, I’m really not sure why this isn’t a basic, integrated feature of Harvest. Overall, I love the service but I, too, have wished for this functionality many times. I use the workaround discussed above for now, but I hope this gets some traction.

Avatar

Completely agree – I’ve been waiting for this feature for 1+ years too! Let’s get it in the next major release, please!

Yes, I just don’t get it. Hvor can they continue spending time on “beautifying” things and making it “easier to use” while ignoring this basic functionality that EVERY other invoicing tool have.

Exporting a dumt non-sorted liste in Excel-format to perform a search on a invoice number every time I need to find something? The fact that harvest staff actually call that “great advice” actually says it all :( I’m looking for a good alternative.

I agree with the other comments. It’s a bit frustrating to not be able to search for specific information within my invoices. It’s a huge time suckage to have to sort through them manually.

+1

I would love to be able to sort the table of invoices by their columns, and searching for invoices by invoice number or client would be great!

Hi @all – Thank you so much for your feedback. We’re not working on an invoice search in the near future – we’ve got some other features in our timeline that we plan to work on first – but I have added all of your comments to our feature request list. Cheers!

Can’t tell you how frustrating it was to read that you are not working on this feature. Seems so obvious and this is not an unfamiliar or new concept in programming/coding. Exporting to search every time is very inefficient. Any word on whether you might be considering it now?

Even if there’s no search for invoices or estimates, maybe at least a ‘sort by’ function? I rarely call for the need to look up invoices/estimates by date yet that’s how they’re ordered, especially frustrating when I’ve edited an estimate for a new version and changed the date. Ordered by invoice/estimate number would work best for me in most instances.
