Account Statements
A frequent request we have is for a Client Account Statement, which shows outstanding and late invoices. In what form would you need this to appear? How would you like the information to be communicated to your client (via a Client Log In, an email from Harvest, or a PDF)?
Hey Karen,
Welcome to your new community; I’ll jump in here. Consider making the content of the Client Statement configurable – going beyond just “here’s what you owe me” perspective (although we ought to be able to design one of those if needed.) I should think Recent Activity, Recent Payments, and the like would be key to have available.
For my part (Harvest solo), a PDF copy is all that’s needed. My clients would not be interested in logging into some other site or getting an email from a service provider I’m using.
I’m sure others will have different takes on that.
I can also envision sending an activity/billings based recap to folks at year end as a reminder to generate a 1040 for me, as well.
Regards,
Kevin M.
Hi there,
What is needed is a basic statement of accounts showing all outstanding (unpaid) invoices listed as an aged debt (typically 0-30 days, 30-60 days, 60+ days but this should be user configurable). The report should use the same header details as the invoice, to ensure that there is consistency. Anything more than this and you start to cross over into accounting software. A PDF generated from a “statement” form would be fine. These things tend to get mailed to clients and you can always email it as an attachment if necessary.
Regards,
JT
This isn’t an explicit request, but for me the problem lies in the clients assumption that their current balance is based on the last invoice they received from me.
So my question is: Would it make sense to include a ‘current account’ balance on all invoices (or allow the option of including it)?
This way, the client see what they owe for that particular invoice, then they also see what they own in total.
The could then click on the ‘account total’ to see a detailed statement. Thoughts?
Statements would be a great addition. I’d like them to be configurable as previous commenters requested. Essentially I’d like them to work the same as invoices. That is, I’d like to be able to set them up in Harvest and email them through Harvest, with a PDF attached and a link to pay any balance due via PayPal.
Karen: This is a great idea. I’d settle for an easier way to easily see an “account statement” for a given customer. Right now, it takes a lot of work to go to Invoices >> Report >> Filter by Client.
Guys, thanks so much for all your input. This is really, really useful. We’ll give this some more thought and hope to start on this feature soon!
Statements is really important. I think delivering them just like you deliver an invoice as an attached PDF with link to view online would be terrific.
I would like to echo the sentiments regarding having some form of statement available in the program. It is important for clients to see as a project advances, where they stand regarding their outstanding balance.
This is especially important in the legal arena, where attorneys must adhere to rigorous transparency standards with the client for their billing practices. Which, of course, includes a record of what has been billed, paid and what remains outstanding.
Hi @Brent and @aek –
Having a client statement of accounts would be a great component of a client log-in, and I’m going to add your comments to our notes on that. @aek, thanks for the extra notes on what would be helpful in an account statement.
We’ll definitely be +1 for this too.
Being able to produce one for each client, and being able to select how we want it listed e.g. by job number/description or by invoice number or both(because depending on the client they would understand one better then the other). Then showing the amounts next to dates and a summary at the bottom with amounts at 30days, 60days and 90 days or overdue.
@Samara – any update on time table for producing client statements or having ability for clients to log-in and see?
HI Brent – Client log-in isn’t in our timeline right now, so I can’t give you a timeframe. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Cheers,
Samara
How about at least our ability to push a statement by email to client, like we do invoices? Is that on the timeline?
+1 on Statments – emailed to client or generated as PDF, using very similar formatting as invoices. Would be huge.
I’m sorry, @Brent, but that’s not on our timeline right now, either.
@nategasser, I’ll add your name to our feature request list.
Thanks for checking in! As Samara mentioned, this is not in our currently development timeline at the moment, but it is a current feature request. Sorry we can’t be more specific!
Statements would be great! Communications to client could be similar to invoices: pdf, email, etc.
Hope this gets added!
