Jira Integration

Avatar

Just wondering if anybody has attempted to integrate Jira with Harvest? We love Harvest and we love Jira but it makes sense for our developers to enter their times in Jira against the issues they are working on. We would like to then post those times against tasks in Harvest without the developers entering their time twice.

If nobody has already done this we are thinking of doing it ourselves and making it available to the community so I would like to hear from anyone else who might find this useful.

Chris, thanks for the post. While we’ve had developers contact us about Jira integrations they are working on in the past, we have not heard of any publicly available integrations. We’d love to hear more about whatever you come up with!

Hi – Love to hear if anything happened on this over the last 6 months? We’re looking to switch to harvest and to Jira. not having the two interface directly is proving a deal breaker.

+1 I use Harvest and Jira and would like to see some integration.

@russellgrocott we’ve not done anything internally with a JIRA integration yet. @chris have you had any luck developing a solution between JIRA and the Harvest API?

@mattro I’ve noted your request in our feature request tracker. We’ll let you know if anything happens in the way of a formal JIRA integration.

We use JIRA with the Tempo plugin for time tracking and my users hate it! If harvest was integrated with JIRA though, it would be a much better options for us than Tempo.

Hi @dougell76 – I’ll add your name to our feature request list for a possible JIRA integration. Thanks for getting in touch!

We’ve just finished an internal tool to solve this problem. All of our developers already use the Jira code (eg: “ABC-123”) in their descriptions for timesheets, so we search for that using the Harvest API then find that issue in Jira. We then use the Jira API to log work for that amount of hours and add a comment with description from Harvest.
The only glitch we hit was spamming everyone with lots of updates, but you can make the comments silent from the Jira API.

Note: this is a pretty simple approach, and doesn’t handle situations like when an item gets deleted from Harvest. I had a look at Tempo, and the developers seem to have spent a fair bit of time neatly integrating with Jira and greenhopper- they’ve done a very nice job. So that bit is awesome, but Tempo is probably not the best time tracking solution- to be honest you probably wouldn’t consider it unless you were already using Jira. Where Tempo is somewhat lacking is all the nice bits of Harvest – the time tracking, allocating time and the reports.

Looking to roll out Jira in a few weeks, would love to get the company excited about a Jira Integration or plans for one. Any news?
